Advocacy
How OFIS Provides Advocacy to Members
OFIS regularly communicates with our province’s key policy makers and affiliated government officials to advocate for the recognition and rights of independent schools. We partake in lobbying and campaigning for independent schools and communicate directly with the Ministry of Education. As such, we actively represent independent schools as crucial contributors to the education system in Ontario.
As a part of this representation, we aim to dissolve misinformed assumptions and mythology around who chooses independent schools and why, particularly concerning the false and damaging notions about elitism, and financial models for independent schools.
We continue to meet with a variety of independent schools and associations, as we believe that independent schools are stronger as a voice when we respect and protect each other’s diverse backgrounds and goals.
We participate in ongoing studies and research to provide clarity and truth about independent schools for the public, as well as for industry organizations.
